Dennis Yockers of Minnetonka sat on the ground next to a tree on private land 3 miles south of Bratsberg in Fillmore County. He was 30 yards up on a point of land, above a configuration of deer trails that funneled toward him. Yockers knew what he was doing. At 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 6, this 11-point buck appeared on a trail to his right. The deer dipped, then walked straight up, until it was only 20 yards away from the end of the hunter's Remington shotgun slug barrel. The inside spread on the rack was 20 inches.
