A man was killed Tuesday night when he was struck by a vehicle at a busy Anoka County intersection.

Emergency responders were called to the intersection of University and 85th avenues NE. in Blaine, near the Northtown Mall, at 8:42 p.m., authorities said.

A 1998 Ford Taurus driven by a 73-year-old Coon Rapids man struck a 51-year-old Minneapolis man in the intersection, authorities said. Efforts to revive the victim were unsuccessful.

The incident was witnessed by a police officer. A preliminary investigation indicated that the pedestrian failed to yield the right of way to the vehicle, authorities said.

The State Patrol, Blaine police, Anoka County deputies and the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office continued to investigate.
