Gophers football coach P.J. Fleck's staff was finalized with the hiring of nine assistant coaches and four other staff members, the team announced Tuesday.

Offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Kirk Ciarrocca and defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Robb Smith head a group that includes nine members of Fleck's staff at Western Michigan.

None of fired Minnesota football coach Tracy Claeys' staff was retained by Fleck, who was hired Jan. 6.

Ciarrocca was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks at Western Michigan since 2013. Smith, who worked with Fleck at Rutgers in 2010 and 2011, spent the past three seasons as the defensive coordinator and secondary coach at Arkansas.

Joining Ciarrocca on the offensive coaching staff are running backs coach Kenni Burns (Western Michigan), tight ends coach Brian Callahan (Western Michigan), wide receivers coach Matt Simon (Western Michigan) and offensive line coach Ed Warinner (Ohio State).

On the defensive side with Smith will be defensive backs coach Maurice Linquist (Mississippi State) and Bryce Paup (Northern Iowa). Special teams coordinator Rob Wenger comes from Western Michigan.

Fleck also announced general manager Gerrit Chernoff (Western Michigan), head strength and conditioning coach Dan Nichol (Western Michigan), director of player personnel Marcus Hendrickson (Western Michigan) and director of video Matt Childers (Western Michigan).

"I am proud to announce these additions to the Minnesota staff," Fleck said in a statement. "I have worked with the majority of these elite men and am confident they will help take Gopher football to the next level. They are all passionate about the game, but are also committed to the process of developing young men academically, athletically and socially."
