With the pending snowstorm diving south of the metro area, there is a good bet that the Minnesota Department of Transportation will go forward with its plans to close parts of Interstate 35W through south Minneapolis on Wednesday and Thursday nights.

MnDOT said the closures were weather dependent. A definite answer will come by noon Wednesday, said spokesman David Aeikens.

Assuming things won't be too bad, here is what will be closed:

Northbound I-35W between Crosstown Hwy. 62 and I-94 will shut down from 10 p.m. Wednesday to 5 a.m. Thursday. Drivers will be routed via Hwy. 62 to northbound Hwy. 100 to eastbound I-394 and back to I-35W.

Southbound I-35W between I-94 and Crosstown Hwy. 62 will be closed from 10 p.m. Thursday until 5 a.m. Friday. Driverswill be detoured to westbound I-394, to southbound Hwy. 100 and eastbound Hwy. 62 to get back to I-35W.

If the weather is deemed too sour, the closures will be moved back a day to Thursday night for northbound closure and Friday night for the southbound closure, Aeikens said.
