Fire and smoke engulfed a home in southern Minnesota and left one person dead, authorities said Thursday.

The blaze erupted late Wednesday afternoon at a house in the 68400 block of 140th Street in rural Emmons, about 15 miles southwest of Albert Lea, according to the Freeborn County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies arrived to find "thick smoke exiting all parts of the home and large flames shooting out the back of the home," the Sheriff's Office said in a statement. The cause of the fire was not released.

After the fire was contained, a body was found inside, the statement continued.

The victim's identity has yet to be released.
