Two semitrailer trucks — one hauling grain and another hazardous fuel — collided Monday morning at an intersection in Grant County in west central Minnesota killing one of the drivers, the State Patrol said.
According to the patrol, the driver of a 2014 Peterbilt tractor-trailer headed west on Hwy. 27 stopped at a semaphore at the intersection with Hwy. 59, about 25 miles north of Morris. The driver then proceeded to cross Hwy 59. As the truck pulled out, another semitrailer truck heading south on Hwy. 59 approached. The driver of the second truck attempted to brake, but struck the crossing semi in the right rear end, the patrol said.
The driver of the southbound truck was not wearing a seat belt and was killed upon impact. His name has not been released, but the patrol said the victim was a 61-year-old man from Sebeka.
The driver of the Peterbilt, Allen Lee Powell, 63, of Mexico, Mo., was not hurt, the patrol said.
Roads were dry at the time of the crash, which happened about 10:25 a.m. The crash remains under investigation.
