Services are Saturday for Janie Collins, a national ice-skating performer who later married a leading entrepreneur in touring ice extravaganzas.

Collins, 69, of Edina, died in Minneapolis on Dec. 28 after a long illness.

A Miss Georgia and Miss America entrant in 1956, she toured and skated with Alfredo Mendoza as the Adagio Stars. The duo also helped created ballet-style routines for Cypress Gardens performers in Florida.

Traveling with the Holiday on Ice troupe took her around the United States, Mexico and Cuba. It was during those travels that she met her future husband, Tom Collins.

Tom Collins made his fame after founding and heading the Champions on Ice tours.

The Collinses and their children moved from Georgia to Minneapolis in 1971.

Along with her husband, Janie Collins is survived by sons Michael, Mark and Marty.

Services will be held Saturday at noon at Our Lady of Grace Church, 5071 Eden Av., Edina. Visitation is scheduled for one hour before service.

Memorials are suggested to the USFSA Memorial Fund, c/o U.S. Figure Skating Headquarters, 20 First St., Colorado Springs 80906.
