James Gordon Andersen, MD

Andersen, James Gordon, MD. age 92, of Naples, FL (formerly of Minneapolis, MN) born in Kenosha, WI April 8, 1923, passed away August 27, 2015 in Winnetka, IL. James is survived by his sister, Miriam Petersen (Loren) of Peoria, IL, daughters, Gwen Andersen of Naples, FL, Stepanie Andersen-Formolo (Tom) of Winnetka, IL; grand children, Hayley, Cassandra, Reese and Andersen, as well as many nieces and nephews. To his grandchildren he was affectionately known as Papa Jim. James was a member of the USMC during WWII where he served as a staff sergeant for three years, and taught electronics repair. He graduated from the University of Colorado-Boulder with a B.A. after which he went to Harvard Medical School graduating in 1952. He had his internship and residency at the University of Minnesota, and spent the early years of his medical career as a general surgeon. In 1969 he co-founded Emergency Physicians Professional Association (EPPA) in Minneapolis, and served as its President for several years before retiring in 1988. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Edina, MN. In 1996 he moved to Naples, FL where he enjoyed the ocean views, boating, dining out and having his family visit. James loved traveling abroad, reading (especially history books), Saturday spaghetti night, listening to Garrison Keillor and organ music, debate, watching the news and fishing in Canada. James was preceded in death by his parents Ingvard and Ella Andersen, sisters Irene Olsen (Reynold), Grace Endicott (Fred), and Amy Andersen, Lois Sorensen, brother Raymond (Mary), and ex-wife Connie Fuller-Andersen. Private Funeral Services will be held.
