Gene Harold Hennig

Hennig, Gene Harold age 67, of Chanhassen - child of God, loving husband, insatiable traveler, selfless advocate, dedicated teacher, and proud father and grandfather - died peacefully at home on August 25, 2015, of brain cancer. Survived by his wife of 37 years, Kristin; children Emily, Luke, and Katherine (Scott) Teece; grandson Simon Teece; brother, Mark; sister Anne (James) Wunderlich; and sister-in-law, Gloria. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Polly, and brother, Robert. A widely-respected attorney, Uniform Law Commissioner, professor, and mentor, Gene devoted much of his time to helping others. He loved to hike, canoe, and camp. Having grown up in India, Gene was a proud alumnus of Kodaikanal International School. He remained dedicated to the children of India, co-founding Bethania Kids to help the neediest of them. Gene was grateful to have been a part of two great law firms, Rider Bennett and Gray Plant Mooty, with coworkers he respected. He was active in two congregations, where he made many friends. He served on several nonprofit boards, including LegalCORPS, Cristo Rey, and Valparaiso University. He climbed many mountains and changed the world for good. And best of all, he would say, he enjoyed his loving family. Wake on Sept 2, 5-7 PM, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 3045 Chicago Av S, Mpls.
