Dona J. Engebretson Dona J. Engebretson

Engebretson, Dona J. Age 78, of Prior Lake, passed away peacefully August 20, 2015 after a brief illness. Dona was in the presence of loved ones as her time on this earth came to an end. She was born on September 11, 1936 in Sioux Falls, SD to Nels and Leone (Dibble) Servold. Dona was the oldest of four children and graduated from Washington High School in 1954. At the age of 22, in September 1958, she met the love of her life, Donald Engebretson, on a blind date. They quickly became soul mates and were inseparable from that moment on. Dona and Don were married on November 22, 1958. They made their home in Sioux Falls and 3 years later welcomed their first child. Dona chose to stay at home and focus on raising their three daughters: Julie, Sonja and Renae. The family moved to Des Moines, IA in 1970 before settling in Prior Lake in the spring of 1974. Dona became an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins during their championship season in 1987 and rarely missed watching a game. Her true joy in life was being a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. However, she also had a passion for playing games, especially Scrabble. Family and friends enjoyed her competitive spirit and it was always a challenge to take away the "game night" trophy from her! Dona was a woman of incredible faith and was involved in her church, as well as many volunteer organizations in the community over the years. Her memory is honored and cherished by her husband of nearly 57 years: Don; her daughters: Julie (Jeff) Buchtel, Sonja (Bill) Yonak and Renae Huber; five grandchildren: Courtney Schmidt, Alex Schmidt, Kyle Huber, Stephen Huber and Jenna Huber; sister: Betty (Bill) Lyle and brother: Dale (Kerry) Servold, along with numerous loving relatives and close friends. There to greet Dona in heaven are her parents, Nels and Leone, and her brother, Dean Servold. A celebration of Dona's life will be held on Tuesday, September 8th at St. James Lutheran Church in Burnsville, MN at 12:00 p.m. There will be a gathering of family and friends before the service at 11:00 a.m. A private burial will be held at a later date. stjameslc.org (952) 890-4534 cremationsocietyofmn.com (952) 924-4100
