Helen I. Landvik

Landvik, Helen I. Age 97 of Edina, passed away at Fairview Southdale Hospital on 7/26/15. Preceded in death by husband, Gilmer Landvik; brother, Douglas Hilvers; great-grandson, Alexander Susee. Survived by children, Thomas (Sharon), Karen (Brian) MacDonald; grandchildren, Allison (Mark) Susee, Rebecca (Russell) Mitchell, Michael (Michelle), Briana MacDonald; great-grandchildren, Isabelle and Steven Anderson, Zephaniah and Caleb Landvik. Born and raised in Cuba City, Wisc, Helen moved to Mpls after graduation from high school to attend the Minnesota School of Business. She studied the accordion at The MacPhail School of Music. After graduation from business school, she went to work at the Federal Reserve Bank in Mpls where she met her husband, Gil. They married in 1941 and lived in Colorado Springs, CO while Gil served in the Army Air Force during WWII. They moved back to Mpls after the war and in 1950 they moved to the Morningside community in Edina. Helen remained an Edina resident for 65 years. Her passion was caring for her family and home. Helen had many creative talents and especially enjoyed sewing, knitting, and creating artistic, recycled cards. She loved music and played the organ, piano and accordion. She also enjoyed gardening, traveling, reading and doing Sudoku. Helen was well-loved by many who enjoyed conversations with her and listening to her stories and many memories. She was a great listener to all. She remained active and independent until her death. Many thanks to the nurses, physicians and staff at Fairview Southdale Hospital for their wonderful care of Helen in her last few days. Memorial service 10:30 AM Tuesday, Aug 4 with a gathering of family and friends at 9:30 AM at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 4801 France Ave, Mpls. Lunch at the church following the service. Visitation 5:30-7:30 PM Monday, Aug. 3 at Washburn-McReavy Edina Chapel. Interment at Fort Snelling. Memorials preferred to Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.
