Bentzin, William Allen Age 81 of Stillwater, died on Friday, July 24, 2015. Bill is survived by his daughter Kimberly (James) O'Connell; nieces and nephews as well as many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Iva, his parents, Frank and Winifred (Hilbelink) Bentzin, his brothers Lowell and Frank Bentzin and sister Mardell (Bentzin) Murrow. Bill graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1956 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism. He began his career as a news and sports reporter for the Globe Gazette newspaper in Mason City, IA and also worked at the Duluth News Tribune, Duluth, MN. He later worked in public relations for 3M Company. He left 3M to form his own marketing communications business, Bentzin Communications which became The Best Group. During this time, he formed an organization called The Committee for Rejection of Obnoxious Commercials (CROC) and became editor of the Twin Cities Free Press which is no longer published. Bill also held executive management roles at AdHouse, a premium specialty company, the Mid-American Solar Energy Center (MASEC) and Control Data. He was a member of the Minnesota Army National Guard and a board director for the Minnesota Chapter of the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America, Inc. The funeral service will be held at 11 am Friday, July 31, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 115 N. 4th Street, Stillwater, MN 55082. The visitation will be held from 4-7 pm, Thursday, July 30, 2015 at Simonet Funeral Home, 6429 Osgood Ave. N, Stillwater, MN 55082 and also from 10-11 am at church on Friday. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
