Helen Kromer

Kromer, Helen formerly of Crystal, Helen passed away peacefully with her daughters at her side on July 4th at the age of 89. She had been a resident of Cornerstone Assisted Living in Plymouth for the past 10 years. Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Johnny; her parents, two brothers and one sister. She is survived by her daughters, Christine (Gerald) Phelan and Breta (Robert) Kupfer; sister, Audrey Henry; two grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Helen was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. She met her husband John on a street car on her way to work. He was on his way to Alaska with the US Army. They married in January of 1945 and moved to New Jersey the same year. In 1953 they were transferred to Minnesota by Prudential Insurance Company, who was her husband's employer. She became active with her girls in Brownies, Girl Scouts and Camp Fire Girls, as well as dance classes, golf, neighborhood club and many church activities. She sang in the church choir for more than 40 years and with no formal training, was the Junior Choir director for many of those years. Helen's beautiful flower and vegetable gardens will always be remembered. She could fix anything her girls or "Dad" messed up and was always knitting, crocheting, sewing or working on a craft project. Helen was extremely proud that she was a Canadian and loved her Scandinavian roots. Her favorite collections were her silver spoons and English china teacups and saucers. Thank you to all of her Cornerstone family for being there over the past decade. A special thank you to Rosemarie Lund, for the love and attention and beautiful hair she gave our mom over her 10 years at Cornerstone. You are truly an angel. A private interment will be held at Fort Snelling. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 9th at 11:00 AM at Valley Community Presbyterian Church, 3100 Lilac Drive North, Golden Valley, MN 55422.
