Thompson, Carolyn A. Age 67, of Columbia Heights, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family Sunday, July 5th after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Evelyn Jackson. She is survived by her loving husband John of 42 years; daughters, Jennifer (Scott), Sarah (Jay); brother, Bill (Shirley) Jackson and many nieces, nephews and other extended family. Carolyn was born in Mora, MN, raised in Columbia Heights and graduated from the University of Minnesota, and later received her Master's degree from the University of St. Thomas. Carolyn was a primary education teacher for more than 30 years most recently retiring from St. John the Baptist (New Brighton) in 2014 as the first grade teacher. Her passion for teaching, and especially reading, was infectious. She was best known for her funny voices and expressions when reading to her class. A friend to many, Carolyn was a truly optimistic, cheerful and fun-loving person-to know her was a gift. She loved to garden, shop, read and enjoyed time with her feline companions and guardians until the end, Lucy and Ethel. Carolyn was a woman of great faith and a lifetime member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church. The family would like to thank Carolyn's care team at University of Minnesota Gynecologic Oncology, Fairview Home Care and Hospice for their efforts and support. Memorial Service to be held Saturday, July 11th, 11AM with visitation one hour prior, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church (4101 Washington St. NE, Columbia Heights). Private family interment. Memorials preferred to the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance or donor's favorite charity.
