Washburn, Katherine M. "Kathy" went home to the Lord Thursday, July 2, 2015 after courageously battling mesothe-lioma. Born Katherine Marie Anderson to Maurice and Ruth (Sorsveen) Anderson on April 9, 1941 in Brain-erd, MN, Kathy lived in Brainerd until her high school graduation in 1959. She then attended the University of Minnesota School of Dental Hygiene, graduating in 1961. While at the U of M, she met the love of her life and on July 14, 1962, married Francis J. Washburn. After living in Newfoundland Canada until 1965, Kathy and Fran made their home in Rochester where Fran started a dental practice and Kathy joined him for 20 years as a dental hygienist. Kathy loved to help and serve others which was evident from the many organizations for which she volunteered including: PEO Chapter BM (for 32 years), Eden Garden Club, state and local chapters of the Zumbro Valley Dental Auxiliary, and Methodist Hospital Auxiliary (for 34 years). Her infectious smile and sweet disposition will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew her. She is survived by husband, Francis; daughters Kristin (Gregg) Gabriel of Independence, MN and Joelle (Leif) Syverson of Minne-tonka, MN; five grandchildren Ryan and Kevin Gabriel and Ellyse, Elliot and Aaron Syverson; sister, June Stahl of St. Paul; four nieces and two nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents. A Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday, July 9 at 11:00am at Autumn Ridge Church, Rochester, with visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Autumn Ridge Church, Humor to Fight the Tumor Foundation, or Mayo Hospice. Macken Funeral Home in Rochester is in charge of arrangements.
