Richard J. '(Jerry)' Potter

Potter, Richard J. (Jerry) Age 83, of Edina. Passed away June 24, 2015. Jerry's life was marked by deep faith- faith in entrepreneurship, community service, and the Christian message of love and community. He felt comfortable in a board room, a small plane, a duck blind, skiing deep powder in the mountains, sleeping on mattresses next to homeless families, and ringing bells for the Salvation Army. Jerry grew up in Edina, attended St. Thomas Academy, and graduated from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. Companies he started or managed included Scientific Computers, Automated Systems, Sweden House, Culinary Technology, and Corban Systems. Service commitments included Project Concern International, Prison Fellowship ministry to inmates at Sandstone, Stillwater, Lino Lakes, Faribault, and Moose Lake prisons. Jerry served as president of Minneapolis Rotary and volunteered for Camp Enterprise and Strive. He served on the Twin Cities Advisory Board of the Salvation Army. He was a committed husband, an exemplary father, a fun-filled and wise grandfather, and a caring friend to people of all ages. Survived by Nancy, wife of nearly 60 years, daughter Teddie Potter (Stephen Nesser) and son Michael Potter (Kris), grandchildren Sean and Terra Peterson and Keela and Lee Potter, extended family Tim Nugyen (Tanya).
