Stanton Walter Holmberg

Holmberg, Stanton Walter Stan Holmberg passed away on May 27th, 2015, at the age of 93. He was born in St. Cloud, MN, to John and Lillian Holmberg. He graduated from St. Cloud Tech High School and then served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1942 until 1945. He was stationed in Africa, Italy, and France in WWII. After his years in the service he married Mary Ann in 1946, his surviving wife of 68 years, and settled in Minneapolis. He then attended the U of M School of Engineering and graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering. He worked in research for General Mills and following this, was employed by Fluidyne Engineering for 35 years. Stan loved fishing, downhill skiing, woodworking, and camping, but most of all, spending time with his family. He was a longtime active and devoted member of both Mount Olive Lutheran Church and Westwood Lutheran Church. Stan reared five boys with Mary Ann, and is survived by sons, John (Karen), Mark (Lynn), Paul (Dawn), Peter (Laurie), Andrew (Paula); grandchildren, Katie, Sam (Kelsey), Kristen (Derek), Aaron (Bevin), Lauren, Alli (Sam), Kaela, Josh (Jackie), Jamie (Steve), Jenny (Adam), A.J., Kaatrin; great-grandchildren, Hayley, Hunter, Hannah, Strider; stepbrother, Robert Holmbeck. Preceded in death by brother, Donald; sister, Geraldine. Stan will be dearly missed by countless friends and family. The service will be held June 5th, 2015, at Westwood Lutheran Church, 9001 Cedar Lake Road in St. Louis Park at 11 AM with visitation one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to Westwood Lutheran Church.
