Mark Alan Lessin

Lessin, Mark Alan Known to many as "Lou", age 53, of Lake Park, MN "walked home" May 1, 2015. Mark was born September 3, 1961 at Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. Raised in Coon Rapids, MN, graduating class of 1980. Mark served in the US Air Force from 1980 - 1984. He began working for Tires Plus in 1985, learning and thriving in all aspects of the business by managing many stores throughout the Twin Cities, Fargo ND and Omaha, Nebraska. Mark and his family finally found their home and community in Detroit Lakes in 2000 and living their dream by opening their own Tires Plus store. Mark had a true passion for the outdoors as an avid golfer, love for fishing, bow hunting and snow-mobiling. He followed many sports which included; football, baseball and golf, but most of all Mark loved hockey and was a MN Gopher fan in every sense of the word. Mark leaves behind his wife Candace of 28 years, sons Matthew Alan Kowalski of Blaine, MN, Andrew (Jess) Lessin of Detroit Lakes, MN, Christopher Karels of Pipestone, MN, and daughter Chelsea Lessin (Mitchell Sandberg) of Detroit Lakes, MN. The joys of his life, grandchildren: Payton, Mayson, Mackenzie, Katelynn, Jackson, Gracelin, Victor and Dominick, along with his mother: "Cess" (Jim Carter), father: John (Peggy) Lessin, sisters: Jody Sandberg, Lori (David) Holmquist and Lisa (Kevin) Paul. In addition, Mark is survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces and nephews: Jason Sandberg, Taryn Hurtado, Jeremy Holmquist, and Nicholas Paul and mother-in-law: Karen Mellem of Anoka, MN and father-in-law: Merlyn Mellem of West Fargo, ND, sisters-in-law: Chrystyne Mellem and Katie (Justin) Israelson and brother-in-law: Jason Mellem. Mark touched so many people from all the years at Tires Plus, through sports and the community. But so very many touched his life as well. The family would like to thank the amazing ER staff at Essentia - St. Mary's Hospital of Detroit Lakes who assisted on May 1st and especially the town and people of Detroit Lakes. Mark loved this town and had truly found his home. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Harold and Ruby Lessin, and his maternal grandparents Godfrey and Mary Morrisette and Sgt. Bryan Opskar. Funeral Services for Mark will be held Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 1:30 PM in First Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes. Visitation will be held Friday, May 8 at David Donehower Funeral Home from 5 PM - 7 PM with a 7 PM Prayer Service. Visitation will also continue at the church one hour prior to services. Interment will be held in Cormorant Lutheran Cemetery. The David-Donehower Funeral Home of Detroit Lakes is caring for the family.
