Aphrodite Ginakes

Ginakes, Aphrodite age 100, of Edina, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on May 3, 2015. Preceded in death by husband Nicholas, daughter-in-law Connie and grandson Nick. Survived by her children Demos, Dianne (John) Dovolis and John (Kayla). She was also blessed with 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; and was grateful for her very special relationship with Barbara Brownfield. The youngest of five children, Aphrodite, grew up in a vibrant and active Greek Orthodox community in Birmingham, AL, where she participated in plays, dancing, Greek school, and the church choir. She was an accomplished pianist and was also voted Miss AHEPA. She married Nick Ginakes of Fargo, ND, where they lived for 40 fulfilling and happy years before moving to Mpls to be closer to family. The move to Mpls proved to be wonderful for both of them. Aphrodite volunteered for many years at the Veterans Hospital while in Fargo and subsequently taught Greek School while in Mpls. She was a member of St. Mary's Greek Orthodox Church in Mpls and a member of the Philoptochos and the Daughters of Penelope. Aphrodite was blessed with family and friends who cherished her loving, gracious and kind personality. She was always thankful to God for her many blessings, her positive and joyful attitude which allowed her to celebrate and enjoy 100 wonderful years. A special thanks to Dr. George Morrison whose exceptional care and kindness over many years is much appreciated, as well as the dedication and compassion of her caregivers. Visitation 5-7 PM on Wednesday, May 6, with 7 PM Trisagion service at Washburn-McReavy Edina Chapel, West 50th St. & Vernon Ave. at Hwy 100. Funeral service 12:00 noon Thursday, May 7, St. Mary's Greek Orthodox Church, 3450 Irving Ave. S., Mpls. Interment Riverside Cemetery, Fargo, ND.
