James R. Danielson

Danielson, James R. Most recently of Presbyterian Homes, Spring Park, MN, passed away on April 22. Jim was born on May 19, 1925. He graduated from Milaca High School in 1943. The class motto was, "Out of the harbor, into the sea." Indeed it was. Jim joined the Merchant Marines (USCG), served there until the war was over. He sailed into ports in Europe, Africa and many in South America with Matson Lines & Grace Lines until he was 26. The Korean War broke out in 1950 and Jim was drafted into the Army. He served his country well as a T/Sgt in the Infantry in Korea where he was known to his men as "Big Dan." Jim was awarded the Purple Heart for his sacrifice, the Bronze Star and the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster for his valor. Jim was the Maintenance Foreman at Monsanto Industrial Chemicals, Seattle, which became Rhone-Poulenc Organic Chemicals from which he retired after 30+ years. Jim also owned the Mirror Lake Gulf Station in Federal Way. Jim was preceded in death by Thelma, his wife of 43 years. He is survived by sister Mary Ann Hoppe, Maple Plain; nephews Joe Hoppe, Chaska, David Hoppe, Bloomington, Victor Knight, Reno; nieces Mary Beth Jameson, Eagan, Cindy Ziegler, Orlando. No services are planned. Memorials may be directed to the Salvation Army.
