Alan E. Marquardt

Marquardt, Alan E. Alan was born on Christmas Eve, 1937, in Milwaukee, WI, and went to walk in the garden with Jesus on April 17, 2015. He was the only child of Robert and Dee Marquardt. Growing up in Milwaukee, he was a bright student, a talented musician, and a student leader. He graduated from Lawrence University in Appleton, WI, and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon, and Air Force and Marine Corps ROTC. His 50-year career as a Stock Broker began in San Francisco and he was associated with several firms over the years. For 20 years, until his retirement, he worked with Robert W. Baird as a Vice President-Investments. In the 1980s, he owned two businesses that were a significant part of his life; Parker-Marquardt Securities, and Lund Lures, Inc. He was the cherished husband of Sharon for over 56 years, and wonderful father to daughter Laura Marquardt of St. Paul, son Brett Marquardt, his wife Tami, and granddaughter Samantha, all of Philadelphia, and his grandson Theodore (T.J.) Marquardt of Victoria, MN. He is also survived by dear sister-in-law, Barbara Kamermayer, niece Jodi Kamermayer, and nephew Jeff Kamermayer and his family, all of Milwaukee, as well as extended family. Alan loved sports, but his favorite hobby was fishing and he looked forward with great anticipation to his annual fishing trips to northern Minnesota and Canada. He also loved hockey, football, and PGA golf, and coached Youth Hockey for many years in the Minnetonka area. As a young man, he was a devoted volunteer in his church, and served on several Boards including Board of Trustees and was co-chairman of a successful Building Committee. A friend to many, he will be remembered as a world-class storyteller who could keep everyone in the room entertained. He was an avid weather watcher, bird watcher, garden admirer, and unsurpassed family man. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, May 2nd at 2:00 pm at Plymouth Congregational Church, 1900 Nicollet Avenue in Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Travis Manion Foundation (travismanion.org), or donor's choice.
