Mary Alice (Wing) Fairbrother

Fairbrother, Mary Alice (Wing) Born Greenfield, MA 8/30/1921; Died St. Louis Park, MN 4/20/2015. Herbert and Elsie Newton Wing had seven children: Dorothy, Mary, Harry, Herbert, Jr, Elsie, Kenneth and Richard. Mary lived the longest of them all. Mary spent her growing up years in Northfield, MA and graduated from school there in 1939. She met and married Walter Burns Fairbrother from Newport, VT on October 14, 1939 and settled in Greenfield, MA. Four children were born: Barbara Jean (Harvey) of MN, David Burns (Marilyn) of WI, Donald Edward (Gloria) of CA and Dennis Alan of FL. Walter and Mary ran Fairbrother Radio Service until retirement. Walter died in 1990. Mary was a crossing guard for Greenfield Schools and a reserve matron at the county jail. She lived at 29 Alden Street from 1942 until she moved to MN to live with her daughter in 2005. Mary was a talented artist and tried her hand at most everything artistic over the years - until the 1960s when she began quilting. Most all other endeavors went by the wayside. Quilting for her family and friends used up all her free time. Many have more than one of her quilts. With other friends in Greenfield, Meals on Wheels received a quilt to auction for many years. Her first artistic award was in high school. Her quilts won numerous awards. Mary was a collector - of depression glass, mice, teacups, jewelry and other items. Once she had one, they just multiplied. She leaves eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Services will be held in St. Louis Park on July 21st.
