Jerry Gerasimo

Gerasimo, Jerry 84, died of a pulmonary embolism on April 4, 2015, surrounded by family. Born May 20, 1930 in Gary Indiana, he studied history at Lake Forest College in Illinois, went on to earn his Ph.D. in Human Development at the University of Chicago, and was posted to Germany during his Army service. Gerasimo began his teaching career at Lake Forest College. In 1971 he accepted a position in the Sociology Department at Augsburg College in Minneapolis, where he taught a wide variety of courses, and was a much-loved professor until his retirement in 1996. Gerasimo moved from Minneapolis to Menomonie, Wisc. in 2004, in order to spend more time with his children and grandchildren. He pursued a wide variety of interests, including martial arts, and maintained exceptional health and good cheer throughout his lifetime. Gerasimo is survived by his three daughters, Luisa (Mike Helfman), Pilar and Andrea Gerasimo; grandchildren Xanthi and Toliver Gerasimo; sister Tula Thiros (George Thiros); ex-wife and good friend, Dorothy Bacon (David Jon Miller); and beloved in-laws, nephews and nieces. A Memorial will be held on Sunday, May 24th at the Mabel Tainter Center for the Arts in Menomonie, Wisc. Program begins at 3:00 p.m. with reception after.
