William F. Mackenzie

Mackenzie, William F. age 88, of Edina, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 24, 2015. He was born in Hallock, MN on April 25, 1926, the son of Harry and Louise Mackenzie. When he was an infant he moved with his parents to Grand Forks, ND where he attended school. He then moved with his family to Mankato where he graduated from high school. After high school he joined the Navy V12 Program and attended Gustavus Adolphus College and the University of Wisconsin, where he graduated in 1948 with a degree in chemical engineering. He worked his entire career for the 3M Company, starting in the lab, then becoming a plant manager in Schenectady, NY and in Camarillo, CA. He spent the last 24 years of his career in St. Paul, retiring as Staff Vice President of Quality and Manufacturing. Bill married Katherine Kannenberg in 1949 and they were happily married for 65 years. He loved to travel, play golf, bridge, read, hunt and camp. Most of all he loved his famly. He is survived by his wife, Kay; sister, Nancy (Gordy) Justus; children, Karen Mackenzie (Brooks Donald), and Thomas (Judith) Mackenzie; 4 grandchildren, Bryan (Katie) Donald, Shannon (Nathan) Appy, Abigail (Tony) Basile, Will Mackenzie; 4 great-grandchildren, Charles and Atticus Donald, Maelyn Appy and John Basile. Memorials preferred YMCA Camp Widjiwagan, St. Paul or William Mackenzie Minority Scholarship Fund at the University of Wisconsin School of Engineering.
