William Allen Bossert

Bossert, William Allen Bill was born October 19, 1924, in Robbinsdale, to Al & Clara Bossert. He had one brother, Paul, who died in 1998 at the age of 65. He loved sports and was a natural athlete, earning letters at Robbinsdale High School in baseball and football, and was football captain his senior year. He attended Antioch College in Ohio and the University of Minnesota. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II and was assigned to the Pacific Theater in New Guinea and the Philippines. In 1947, he married Jane Lenore Forrey, also of Robbinsdale, and they had three children. Bill and Jane built their first home in Golden Valley. They later moved to Edina, and finally Burnsville, where Jane lives now. He coached his sons for years in Little League and Babe Ruth baseball. He began skiing in middle age with his daughter, son, and wife and was an avid downhill skier until he was 85. Bill also enjoyed golf in retirement. He was active his entire life in the First Congregational Church of Robbinsdale, later renamed Robbinsdale United Church of Christ. Among other roles, he served as moderator when the church moved to its current location and chaired both the sanctuary building and the stained glass committees. Bill died at 90, surrounded by his loving family, on January 26. He is survived and greatly missed by his wife of 67 years, Jane; their children, Kim (Sharon), Dana (Cornell Marshall), and Rex (Leigh Jones); his sister-in-law, Lois Bossert; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. A memorial service will be held to honor Bill on Saturday, March 7, at 11:00 am at Robbinsdale United Church of Christ, 4200 Lake Road, Robbinsdale, with visitation one hour before. In lieu of flowers, he requested memorial gifts to the RUCC Endowment Fund.
