James V. Jensen

Jensen, James V. 1923 - 2015 91, formerly of Edina, passed away peacefully in the care of Episcopal Church Home of St. Paul on Saturday, January 31. Born September 25, 1923 in Newell, IA, to Edythe and Albert Jensen, Jim grew up and graduated from high school in Benson, MN. While attending Macalester College, he was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II. He served with the 393rd Infantry Regiment and received a battle field commission after the Battle of the Bulge. Following the war, Jim earned an engineering degree with honors at the University of Minnesota. On May 8, 1948, he married Norma "Sam" Alexander of St. Paul; they were married for 60 years. Jim later served as an officer in the headquarters of the 83rd Ordnance Battalion during the Korean War. After his military service, Jim embarked on a long career at Honeywell as a manufacturing manager, serving at several locations in the U.S. and Europe. He retired as vice president of manufacturing in 1989. Jim and Norma shared their love of curling and made many lifelong friends while competing in the sport throughout the U.S., Canada, and Scotland. Jim enjoyed singing with church choirs and barbershop groups for many years. After retiring, he volunteered in several roles with Episcopal Homes in St. Paul. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and his wife. He lovingly cared for Norma during the seven years prior to her death in 2007. Jim is survived by daughters, Kathryn of Cummington, MA and Christine of Wayzata, MN; grandchildren, Matthew Eckelman of Boston, MA, Laura Eckelman of Chestertown, MD, and Alexandra Carlson of St. Paul; great-grand-children, Iris and Hazel Jones Eckelman of Boston; and brothers, Richard of Palm Desert, CA and Greg of London, England. Memorials preferred to JDRF, jdrf.org or 3001 Metro Drive, Ste 100, Bloomington, MN 55425. Interment Fort Snelling Cemetery. Funeral service 10:30 AM Thursday, with visitation one hour prior at St. Alban's Episcopal Church, 6716 Gleason Road, Edina.
