Jordan, Ross W. age 92, born 8/28/22, died on 12/20/14 of complications from a fall. A graduate of West High School (1940) and the University of Minneso ta (1944) he received a degree in aeronautical engineering, a US Naval commission and later a degree in mechanical engineering. He served in the Pacific during WWII on the highly decorated escort carrier, Natoma Bay, CVE 62, that participated in the Battle of Leyte Gulf. He met Phyllis Paul, his future wife, at the garbage cans between their parents' homes. They were married on 6/25/47 and enjoyed over 67 years together raising four children. He helped to integrate his Lowry Hill neighborhood with Dunwoody African exchange students and walked the "Soul Patrol" in north Minneapolis to help defuse racial tensions in the 60's. He worked at Honeywell for 28 years and retired early with Phyllis to an 80 acre farm in Cloquet, MN where he remodeled an old farm house, cut ski trails, raised goats and hosted many Sensitive Men's Festivals, NY's Eve parties, tennis tournaments and croquet games. He was a master O'Hell card game player and inventor who created practical solutions to everyday situations. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin L. Jordan and Mary Hazel Jordan, brother, Almon Jordan and sister, Frances C. Blacklock. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis A. Jordan, daughters Catherine V. Jordan (Steve Lick) and Melanie Jordan (David Warnest); sons Chris (Renee Lemieux) and Tony (Jeannie); grandchildren Caitlin and Ryan Jordan; nephews Craig Blacklock (Honey and Charis), Darrell, Steve and Greg Jordan; nieces Judy Jordan Greene and Martha Horton (Tommy); extended family Rebecca Wallin, Dasha, Alexei and Travis Dickinson, Mohammed Saif, Ned Bateman and many friends. A Memorial Service will be held on January 17th at the First Unitarian Society (FUS) of Minneapolis, 900 Mt. Curve Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55403 at 3pm. Family requests memorials to FUS in lieu of flowers.
