Joyce Elaine (Donovan) Cooner

Cooner, Joyce Elaine (Donovan) Our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, age 89, of Bloomington, passed away Dec. 19, 2014 at Methodist Hospital. Joyce was born Aug. 25, 1925 in Hillsboro, IL to Cecil & Nellie (Thurber) Donovan. She graduated from East High School, Madison, WI. Joyce found her real passion at University of Wisc. majoring in Home Economics. On June 26, 1948 in Madison, WI, she married John Cooner of Jasper, AL. Their young family moved to Mpls in 1953. Joyce worked as a cook for Bloomington Public Schools for 27 years until her retirement in 1995. She was a longtime active member of Hillcrest United Methodist Church, Bloomington, MN. It is here that she taught Sunday School, active member of United Methodist Women, volunteered with Loaves & Fishes, numerous mission projects, boards, and committees. Joyce was a wonderful cook and one of her greatest pleasures was cooking for family gatherings. She was a wonderful quilter, loved knitting, camping and reading. She was a true woman of faith and was the rock our family leaned on for strength. Her passing has left a void that can't be filled. Joyce is survived by her husband, John; daughters, Mary (Tom) Joyce, Julia (Patrick) O'Halloran; sons, David Cooner, Tom (Monica) Cooner; daughter-in-law Gayle Cooner; grandsons, Peter (Freda) Cooner, Jacob (Natalie) Cooner and several other relatives and cherished friends. She was preceded in death by son, Jack Cooner in 2012; her brother, Gary Donovan and her parents. Memorials preferred to Loaves & Fishes. Visitation 9:30-11:00 AM with Funeral Service at 11:00 AM on Saturday, Dec. 27 at Hillcrest United Methodist Church, 9100 Russell Ave S., Bloomington, MN. Private interment at Ft.
