Castner, Lynn Passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at his home in Moss Creek with his wife by his side. He had suffered from myasthenia gravis for decades and was a 10-year survivor of cancer. He was 80 years old. Lynn was born April 11, 1934 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He graduated from the University of Minnesota and from their law school in 1963. He spent a large part of his legal career in the area of human rights and civil rights as executive director of the Minnesota Civil Liberties Union and later as its president. He argued in the U.S. Supreme Court for the right of unpopular parties to have their candidates appear on the presidential election ballot in Minnesota. Lynn also had a solo law practice and handled a variety of civil and criminal cases. He enjoyed being a trial attorney. Lynn had a passion for flying and flew around the country in a single engine plane. He gave up his private pilot license when he was diagnosed with myasthenia gravis. He loved camping, even in winter and was an avid hunter and fisherman. As soon as the ice went out, he was on one of Minnesota's 10,000 lakes. Lynn and his wife, Deonne Parker, retired to Hilton Head in 1999 and moved to Moss Creek in 2005, where he took up photography in earnest, taking many pictures of Lowcountry wildlife and landscapes. He retired from real estate in December 2012, when he closed his real estate brokerage. Lynn was predeceased by his two beloved children, Guido and Alice. His mother, Nina Castner, died in 2001 at the age of 93 on Hilton Head, where she moved to live with him in 1999. Lynn is survived by his wife of 43 years, Deonne Parker, and his sister Florence Castner. Graveside Funeral Services will be Monday, December 22, 2014 at 11 am at Beaufort National Cemetery.
