Alice Wayne

Wayne, Alice We lost a wonderful mother and friend this week. Alice Lloyd Wayne passed away of natural causes at age 99. She resided at Friendship Village in Bloomington. Alice was born November 8, 1915 in Winnipeg, Canada to parents Elizabeth Sinclair Spence and Sidney Parker Lloyd. Her family moved to Minneapolis where she attended West High School, graduating in 1933. After high school she attended The Miss Woods School, obtained a teaching degree in 1935 and taught kindergarten kids in the Kenwood area. In 1938 she met Jim Wayne of Austin, MN and they were married in 1939. Life together began in Minneapolis where daughters Liz and Mary and son Jim were born. The couple found wonderful friendships at Interlachen Country Club in the late 1940's, before moving to Northfield in 1950. Daughter Nancy was born there and Alice became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1956. In 1960 the family relocated to Edina where they spent their lives together until Jim's passing in 2002. She took up residence in her beloved Friendship Village the following year. Alice was a good tennis player in her younger days and golfed in Northfield and at Braemar well into her later years. She obtained a realtor's license and became a popular agent for young couples. Those who knew Alice were embraced by her generosity of spirit, her humor, and her love of life. Her kids cannot recall one complaint ever expressed by their mom. She was gregarious, non judgmental, and smart. Every conversation ended with a declaration of how lucky she felt she was. Alice's life was one of service, enthusiasm, a genuine concern for others, and a dose of irreverence when least expected. Her understanding of kids is legendary and her ability to soothe a troubled young soul was unmatched. Alice and Jim have four children: Liz Garvey, in Sunnyvale, California: Mary Wayne, in Traverse City, Michigan; Jim Wayne Jr. in Chanhassen and Nancy Stenson in Edina; eleven grandchildren and eleven great grand children. Her three siblings, John, Marion, and Virginia are are deceased. Alice and her family want to thank the spectacular staff at Friendship Village, her home for the last eleven years. Alice began an entirely new life while in residence and loved every moment of it. A memorial service will be held at Friendship Village on Saturday, December 27, beginning at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a contribution be made in Alice's name to the Friendship Village employee Christmas Fund.
