Johanson, Alice Annette (Lindholm) Alice Johanson passed away on November 22, 2014 at her home in Durham, NC after a five year struggle with metastasized breast cancer. Alice was born May 5, 1938 in Hutchinson, MN, to Melvin and Charlotte Lindholm. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Arnold "Arnie" Johanson; two daughters, Kaaren Johanson of Durham and Sara Jensen (Kirk) of Minneapolis, MN; a son, Mark Johanson (Carolyn) of St. Paul, MN; four grandchildren, Tyler and Zoë Bartholomew, and Oskar and Claudia Jensen; and two sisters, Grace Trittin (Ronald) of Dassel, MN and Janice Mathieu (Darrel) of Luck, WI. Alice graduated from Dassel High School and from the University of Minnesota, with a degree in education of the visually handicapped. She lived much of her life in Moorhead, MN where she worked for Southeast Human Services in Fargo as a case manager for developmentally disabled children, and where she was very active in the League of Women Voters. On retirement she and Arnie moved to Durham, and she devoted herself to reading, helping to establish the American Village Book Club; knitting, specializing in afghans; Scrabble, virtually unbeatable; and listening to classical music. She enjoyed travel, especially regular visits to New York City and the Metropolitan Opera. She was a deeply beloved wife, mother and grandmother, a quiet and unassuming woman of great character and independence who touched the lives of many. There will be a private gathering in celebration of Alice's life in Minneapolis in the near future. Memorials may be sent to WCPE Radio, Box 897, Wake Forest, NC 27588. Arrangements are entrusted to Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, Durham. Condolences: hallwynne.com.
