Louis Joseph Kopnick, Jr.

Kopnick, Louis Joseph Jr. of Bloomington, MN, died on November 20th, 2014 following a battle with cancer. He died peacefully surrounded by loved ones. Lou was born in Minneapolis, MN on January 26th, 1932 to Ruth Hovey Kopnick and Louis Kopnick Sr. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Patsy and Katherine Maynard. He is survived by wife Donna (Nicholas) Kopnick, sister Barbara (Kopnick) Mantini; children Scott, Paul, and Kari; in-laws Mary Dutton, Carol Anderson, Ruth Kopnick, and Nicholas Han; grandchildren Ben Kopnick, Luke Kopnick, Shawn (Mandy) Kopnick, Andrew Kopnick, Michael Han, Peter Han, and Ryan Han; great-granddaughter Addi Lou Kopnick (his namesake); and many loving nephews and nieces. He proudly served in the US Army in the signal corps, honorably discharged with the rank of corporal. Lou was a devoted Honeywell employee, working as a Production Planner and active in the Honeywell Minnreg Club. In retirement he ran his own company, Viking Advertising Specialties, and also led network professional groups. Lou was a loving husband, proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who always had time to tell a good story or coach a youth league team. He loved to sing and had a beautiful bass voice, participating in his church choir and the Norwegian Glee Club, often playing the leading man in church plays. He was an accredited numismatist, and was a collector of many things. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Dinzer and the rest of the Minneapolis VA Medical Center staff. Lou was one of the kindest people who ever lived and will be dearly missed by those who knew him. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Minnesota Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship's music program. A Memorial Service will be held at the Minnesota Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship 10715 Zenith Ave S, Bloomington on Saturday, November 29th with a visitation at 11 and a service at 12 followed by a luncheon.
