Ackerman, Eugene Died peacefully September 25 in his Minneapolis home. Born 1920 in Brooklyn NY, he studied physics at Swarthmore College and Brown University, receiving his PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He married Dorothy Hopkirk in 1943, while serving as a Conscientious Objector in World War II. During his long career, Gene was Professor of Biophysics and Biomedical Computing at Pennsylvania State University, Mayo Clinic and the University of Minnesota, retiring in 1991. He published three reference books, directed many research and training grants, and was a Fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics. He and Dorothy were active members of the Society of Friends (Quakers). Preceded in death by his sister, parents, and wife. He is survived by children Frank (Becky) of Cambridge MA, Emmanuel of New York City, and Amy (Gunnar) de Canésie of Vagnhärad Sweden; 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 pm, Nov. 1 at Twin Cities Friends Meetinghouse, 1725 Grand Ave. St. Paul. Memorials preferred to Quaker organizations e.g. FGC and AFSC.
