Wallace J. Mattson

Mattson, Wallace J. age 91, of Ft. Myers, FL, formerly of St. Paul,MN passed away on August 17, 2014 due to massive stroke. Survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Rita; children, Jerry and Karen. Wally was born in Wannamingo, MN, graduated from HS in Montevideo, MN and worked in Wash. D.C. where he met and married Rita, the love of his life when they were both 20, right before he went off to fight in WWII. He made 1st Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps as a Navigator/Bombadier, flew 22 missions in a B-26, and survived serious injuries when his plane crashed over Nazi occupied France. Upon his return, he earned his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering at the U of MN, and worked for 35 years at N.S.P. before retiring in FL in 1984. He loved life, was an avid fisherman, golfer, card player, voracious reader, a great husband, father and friend. We are so grateful to have known him.
