McGroarty, Bryan Michael (Mac) of Bloomington, MN and Naples, FL died September 17th, 2014 after a lingering illness. He was the son of William Hugh McGroarty and Mary Rafter McGroarty of St. Paul. He was predeceased by his parents, brother, William, sisters Mary Therese (Tweezy), and Ann, and a stepson, Joseph F. Braun. He is survived by 3 sons: Bryan Matthew McGroarty, Eagan, MN, Mark McGroarty of Colorado, and Patrick McGroarty of Bloomington, MN and former wife, Marilyn McGroarty of Apple Valley. Also surviving are Mac's wife of 29 years Donna M. Braun and her children Kay B. Nicholls (Marc) of Raleigh, NC; Dr. Stephen E. Braun (Caterina) Covington, LA; William L. Braun (Heidi) Winona, MN; Gary J. Braun (Jennifer T.) Morristown, MN; and Jennifer Coburn (Peter) of Tampa, FL. The blended family enjoyed 19 grandchildren and 4 great grandsons and 4 nephews. Known as Porky McGroarty at Murray High School in St. Paul, he was an out-standing athlete in football, hockey, and baseball. He attended Gustavus Adolphus College and the University of Minnesota majoring in Chemistry. Several patents directed at public safety and comfort were products of Mac's scientific mind, creative energy and problem solving abilities. He revolutionized the construction industry by designing, patenting and manufacturing dual membrane products that are used worldwide, as in tunnels, subways and commercial construction and a separate market to contain toxic waste, as in landfills. He was a popular speaker to students seeking entrepreneurship with his simple message: "There's gotta be a better way to do this." He coached youth baseball teams in both Bloomington and Spearfish, SD and helped to provide facilities for training. He served the community of Spearfish, SD by providing business acumen and leadership on several boards including Black Hills State University, Spearfish Economical Development Assn., Spearfish Canyon Assn., and the Library Board. Noted for his great humor Mac loved music, history, geology, travel, time spent with family and friends. He played golf until back surgery interfered. He fed the crows, the squirrels, the raccoons and in Naples, the Ibis. He was particularly proud of his Irish heritage and his nearly 39 years of sobriety in AA. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2014, at 11 AM at Gill Brothers Funeral Home, 9947 Lyndale Ave S, Bloomington.
