Schluender, Katherine Louise age 90 of Monticello passed away on Saturday September 13, 2014 at Centra Care Health of Monticello. Visitation Tuesday September 16, 2014 from 5 PM to 8 PM at Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel, 250 East Broadway, Monticello. Further visitation one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Wednesday. Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday September 17, 2014 at 10:30 AM at St. Henry Catholic Church, 1001 East 7th Street, Monticello. Interment will be at St Henry Cemetery. Katherine was born on June 23, 1924 in West Union, MN to Henry and Katherine (Santer) Messer. She grew up near Osakis, MN. During World War II, she worked in the US Naval shipyards. On July 14, 1949, she was united in marriage to Emil Schluender. The couple farmed before moving to Monticello in 1956. Katherine was a loving mother rand is survived by seven children, Jerome, Dennis (Barb), Diane (Hal) Abrams, Ron (Vicki), Janet Byrnes (Kevin), Gary (Vicki), Robert (Tracy); she is also survived by grandchildren, Derek, Darin, Justin, Kendra, Aaron, Alex, Joe and Jake Schluender, Nathan, Sean and Ryan Wold, Brietta Hutson, Emily Rowland, Erin and Emily Thomas, Michael and Catie Byrnes; 5 great grandchildren, Tianna and Brian Cornelius, Wyatt Wold, Paige and Breckyn Rowland; brothers, Hank and Dave Messer; and sister, Margaret Hitner.
