Edor C. Nelson

Nelson, Edor C. Legendary teacher & coach of Augsburg College. Passed away peacefully on 8/27/2014, 9 days after celebrating his 100th birthday. Always leading by example, Edor touched countless lives: Family members, friends, decades of students and fellow WWII soldiers have been encour-aged by his positive attitude. Born in Boyd, MN on 8/18/1914, Edor grew up in Dawson, MN excelling in sports. As a student/athlete at Augsburg College he learned the importance of educating young people and made it his life's work. Life lessons were taught through the sports that he loved. Edor and his wife Dorathy (70 years of marriage) were long time residents of south Minneapolis raising 2 sons, Bob and Bruce. He volunteered in the community's youth sports programs. An active member of Nokomis Heights Lutheran Church, he coached their youth basketball teams. The Timber Hills (Presbyterian Homes) Residential Community in Inver Grove Heights became Edor's home for the last 9 years, giving him the opportunity to make many new friends. Edor joyfully joins his wife, Dorathy; father, Isaac; mother, Christine; brother, Norman; sister, Belma in Heaven. He is survived by brother, Stan of Anoka; sister-in-law, Ruth Hoehne of Owatanna; sons, Bob (Pam) and Bruce (Kathy); grandchildren, Angela (Roger), Nicholas, Richard (Jodi), Scott (Alyson), and Bryce; 3 great-grandchildren with 2 more expected soon, adoring nieces and nephews and their families. A memorial service is planned for Friday, September 5, 2014 at 1:00 PM with visitation one hour prior at Nokomis Heights Lutheran Church, 5300 10th Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55417 (612) 825-6846).
