Wertin, Fr. George Age 75 of Edina, MN, died August 28, 2014 at Edina Park Plaza. George Pardoe Wertin was born February 22, 1939 in Bismarck, ND, the only child of Alice and George Wertin. He graduated as class valedictorian from Shanley High School, Fargo, ND in 1956. He received a bachelor of philosophy degree from St. John's University, Collegeville, MN in 1960, and a Licentiate in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical Gregorianum Univer-sity, Rome, Italy in 1964. On December 18, 1963, he was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Fargo, ND in Rome. From 1964 to 1978, he served parishes in the Fargo Diocese. He was associate pastor at St. Catherine's in Valley City, ND and St. Michael's in Grand Forks, ND. He was also pastor of rural parishes in Fried, Pingree, and Buchanan, ND. From 1978 to 1986, he was chaplain at the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, MN. In 1986, he began ministering in the St. Paul Archdiocese, serving as associate pastor at St. Peter's in North St. Paul, MN from 1986 to 1988, and pastor of Sacred Heart in Faribault, MN from 1989 to 1992. He was pastor at St. Joan of Arc in Minneapolis, MN from 1992 until his retirement in 2005. A celebration of George Pardoe Wertin's life will be held at St. Joan of Arc, 4537 3rd Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN (612) 823-8205 on Friday, September 5, 2014 at 5:00 PM with inurnment following at the St. Joan of Arc Memorial Garden. A visitation at the church will be from 4:00 - 5:00 PM with a program beginning at 4:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Joan of Arc Justice Fund.
