Donald Leigh Hadfield

Hadfield, Donald Leigh Age 84, of Lakeville, died on Monday, August 25th at his home. Born Feb. 2, 1930 in Aurora, Ill. He graduat- ed from Macalester College in 1952, Andover Newton Theological School in 1956, and doctoral program at Northern Colorado University in 1983. Don served churches in Wellesley, MA; United Church of Christ, Gaylord, MN; Clark Memorial, South St. Paul; and New Venture Church, Plymouth, MN. As a retired clergyman he was an active member of Mayflower Church and provided leadership in various roles. In 1969 Don was employed by the MN Dept. of Education as an Education Specialist with the Equal Education Section until retiring in 1992. Don was a pioneer justice worker implementing civil rights law in public schools and teacher education institutions. Don served as president of the board of directors for MN chapter of Religion and Behavioral Science, Dakota City Heritage Village, and The Hudson Foundation in Colorado. He was a community faculty member of Metropolitan State University and taught classes at the U of MN. His joy and passion in creating gardens of beautiful flowers and produce was a gift that he shared with family, friends and the community, becoming a Master Gardener. Don is survived by his loving wife of 8 years, Martine Hadfield; and his children, John Hadfield, Mary (Keith) Nelson, David (Angie) Hadfield, Barbara Hadfield; step- children, Lynn (Rick) Martin, Newton (Nancy) Fuller, Marcus Fuller, Lisa (John) Klein, Charlotte (Cyril) Beyfus, Alexis (Julian) Beyfus; and 23 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Donald is preceded in death by spouses Harriet Dunning Silver and Marlyn Dysthe Hadfield, and his daughter, Carol Hadfield. A memorial service will be held at Mayflower Congregational United Church of Christ, 106 E. Diamond Lake Rd., Mpls, MN. 55419, at 11AM on Saturday, September 6th. Memorials preferred to Mayflower Church Foundation.
