Foley, Stephen J. September 7, 1958 - August 16, 2014. Stephen J. Foley, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend died Saturday peacefully at home surrounded by close family and friends after battling a long illness. Steve was 55. Steve will be remembered for his adventurous, fun-loving spirit as well as his keen wit, intelligence, and humor. Steve was a great leader and an inspiration to those whose lives he touched. He was a loving husband and father to three children. Always a fighter, in his last days, he pulled together the strength to attend his eldest daughter Lindsey's wedding in an intimate ceremony at the family home. Steve will be remembered as a loyal, generous, and caring friend, a shoulder to cry on, who could always put a smile on your face. Steve's career as a renowned trial attorney was one of remarkable success. He co-founded the national law firm of Foley & Mansfield and was known as a very formidable adversary in the courtroom. Steve was acknowledged by his peers for his legal accomplishments, a sought-after speaker at both national and international conferences, and an author of numerous legal writings. Steve was a brilliant strategist, a daunting opponent, a strong role model to numerous young attorneys, and a loyal friend to all who had the privilege to know and work with him. Outside the courtroom, Steve brought his enthusiasm to competitive cycling, participating in various races and fundraising events. After high school, he rode from Indianapolis, Indiana to Denver, Colorado. In the summer of 1980 he won the time trial at Jackson Hole and participated in a series of races. He spent the summer before law school competing in bike races across Europe. He completed the LoToJa Classic, a 203 mile race to raise funds for cancer research. He also participated in Olympic track cycling trials at the Velodrome and long cycle trips through China and South America. Steve is preceded in death by father, William Robert Foley and mother, Sara Jane Foley. He is survived by his wife, Lynn (nee Parrack), children Lindsey (Rojelio Blanco), Kaitlyn and Dylan, brothers William, Michael (Shayne), John (Beverly), sister Liz (Steve Nelson) and extended family and friends. Funeral Mass will be this Thursday, 10:30AM, at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, 630 Wayzata Blvd E., Wayzata, MN (952-473-6601).
