Welsh, Richard William III age 53, of Richfield, MN, died Friday, July 25 after a six month struggle with pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his mother, Ruth Welsh; sister, Deborah Sanborn (James) & children, Elliot, Katherine & Kelsey; brother, David Welsh (Elizabeth) & children, Alexandra, Jessica and Jack; 2 aunts; 1 uncle; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Major Richard William Welsh. He will be greatly missed by his family and numerous friends from the local Twin Cities area, Mitchell, SD and the University of MN Duluth. Rick was born in Nurnberg, Germany, attended Mitchell High School and graduated from the University of MN Duluth with a degree in electrical and computer engineering. He worked as a computer operator at the Wangensteen Building at the University of MN, for a catering company, and as a cook in several restaurants. He had a passion for table tennis, winning numerous trophies and a lifelong love for boating, camping, fishing, scuba diving, hunting and get-togethers with family and friends. A memorial service will be held at Washburn-McReavy Funeral Chapel, 5000 West 50th St. & Hwy 100, Edina, MN (952-920-3996). Visitation at 1 PM, memorial service at 2 PM, with lunch following on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014.
