Barron, Ronald L. 74, of Bloom- ington passed away on July 19th, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Myrtle (Thynes) Barron, his brother, Kenneth, and his sister, Marilyn DeLoy. Survivors include his wife Carole (Degen) and their children, Kari (Walter) Christensen, David (Jenna) Barron, and Kristi (Dave) Delarwelle, all of Bloomington and beloved grandchildren, Katie and Daniel Christensen, Michael and Scott Barron, and Megan Delarwelle. He will also be missed by his sister, Julie Karschnik of Brookings, SD, sister-in-law, Sally Barron of Dallas, TX, brother-in-law, Al DeLoy of Mellette, SD, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and grand puppies Belle and Sparkles. Ron was born in Mountain Lake, MN and grew up on a farm between Jeffers and Storden, MN. He graduated from Storden High School in 1958 and earned both his under- graduate and masters degree from Mankato State University. Ron did additional coursework at the University of Minnesota, Hollins College in Roanoke, VA, Hamline University, St. Thomas University, and Texas A & M. He served In the U.S. Army 1965-1967 and was stationed in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Ron married Carole Degen on July 6, 1968 at The Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Bismarck, ND. He taught English and history at East Junior High in Richfield, MN from 1962-1978, at which time he transferred to Richfield High School where he taught English until his retirement in 2000. Since retirement, he has been employed part time at Data Recognition Corporation. In addition to teaching, Ron served as English Area Leader, Teacher Contract Negotiator, and on many curriculum committees. He received an Independent Study Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities in 1984, as well as participating in two summer seminars for secondary teachers sponsored by the National Endowment. Ron was active in the Minnesota Council of Teachers of English, serving as president in 1990-91. He also served as local arrangements chair for the National Council of Teachers of English convention held in Minneapolis in 1995. Ron was a board member of the Minnesota Humanities Council 1991-98 and served on the advisory board for the multicultural literature anthology Braided Lives. Ron was extremely interested in Minnesota authors and he accumulated a collection of over 1400 volumes by these authors, as well as two editions of his reference book, A Guide to Minnesota Writers. The second edition of this book won a Minnesota Book Award in 1994. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Pax Christi Catholic Community, 12100 Pioneer Trail, Eden Prairie, MN on Saturday, July 26th at 10 a.m. with a luncheon to follow. Interment at Dawn Valley Cemetery. Visitation one hour prior to the mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
