Beattie, Charles Clefton (Chuck) age 76 of Minneapolis, passed away July 18, 2014. Preceded in death by his parents, Angelle Boyd Clefton & Charles M. Beattie; youngest brother, David Anthony Beattie; and nephew, Shane Anthony Beattie. Survived by long time companion, Allison Boisvert; children of his heart, Patrick, Ian, and Meghan; beloved niece, Nichole Beattie; brother James Beattie and his children, Jim Beattie, Jr., Jeffrey Beattie, Michael Beattie, Alyssa Beattie, and Vanessa Nelson. Chuck was deeply affected by human suffering and, with his beloved partners Lorraine and Pat Teel, introduced the concept of the therapeutic community movement to the VA hospital and, ultimately, the Twin Cities at large. In 1971, Chuck, Lorraine, and Pat founded R.S. Eden and, through relentless hard work, its doors remain open today. In 1995, Newsweek Magazine honored Chuck and Bret Byfield for their work, along with Steve Walsh and Archie Roberts, in founding The Phoenix Group in Minneapolis. Chuck spent his later years at his cabin spending time with his most precious possessions -- his dogs. Chuck Beattie devoted his life to fighting for the helpless, the forgotten, and the discarded -- that is his legacy. "Come to where the dew of mercy glistens and rock on, brother."
