Burkholder, JoAn Carol (Hansen) (age 82) was born on September 12, 1935 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and passed away on November 19, 2017. She was raised on a dairy farm west of Sioux Falls. She learned, at an early age, the work requirements of a dairy farmer's daughter, cleaning the milking equipment every morning and evening, and driving a tractor during crop planting and cultivating season. JoAn attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, completed a two year teaching degree in 1956, and taught grade school-age children for many years. She married her husband, John R. Burkholder, in 1956 and gave birth to four children. In 1970 she received her Bachelor's degree in Education. In 1976 she stepped away from the teaching profession and became a residential real estate agent. In the early 1990's she assumed the Marketing Director responsibilities for an assisted living facility in Brockton, MA, and in 1996 an assisted living facility in Minneapolis, MN. JoAn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Among JoAn's many gifts, she thrived on offering hospitality with a sincere and giving spirit to her friends and family. She was an active church and community services member in all the cities in which she resided, giving generously of her time and talents to those programs. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Edna (Jurgensen) Hansen. She is survived by her husband John Burkholder, brother Rodney (Janet) Hansen, sister Diane (David) Smidt, four children: June (Pete) Rainbow, David (Laura) Chin, Jean (Stacey) Wilson, Carol (Tom) Kuelbs, 12 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Memorial service Saturday, Nov. 25 at 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior at Normandale Lutheran Church, 6100 Normandale Road, Edina, MN 55436.
