Sletten, Joanne L. Jacobson 91, of Maple Grove, MN died in the wee hours of the morning on November 7, 2017 at Colonial Acres, Golden Valley, MN. She was born in St. James, MN on November 10, 1925 to Nora and Ernest Hawkinson. Joanne and her two sisters, Mary and Eleanor, grew up on the family farm. Joanne graduated from the University of Minnesota with an RN and Public Health degree. On October 14, 1950 she married Rolf P. Jacobson, Jr. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Madison, MN where they raised their three children Christie, Nancy and Peter. Joanne was the "School Nurse Extraordinaire" for over twenty years at Madison Public School. Summers from 1959 on were spent at the family cabin on Pickerel Lake. After Rolf's death in 1980, Joanne took a job at the State Hospital in Fergus Falls, MN and retired in 1987. When she married Dr. Mel Sletten on October 31, 1987 she gained a whole new family to love. The couple had many enjoyable years together living between Blanche Lake and Sun Lakes, AZ. In 2002 they moved to Maple Grove and resided at Rose Arbor. Remaining to celebrate her life: Children: Chris Jeatran (Kim Anderson), Nancy Jacobson (Jeff Axton), Rolf Peter Jacobson, III (LouAnn); grandchildren: Josh Jeatran (Jill), Molly McClure (Mark), Luke Jacobson (Jessie), Leah Jacobson (Chris), Ashley Savary (Anthony), Dylan Savary (Paige); great-grandchil-dren: Owen, Bennett, Dominic, Walter, Margaret, Noelle, Sully, Thomas, Shea and brother-in-law Dr. Carl Jessen (Marge). Sletten family: Dr. Wayne Sletten (Jackie), Paul Sletten (Ruth) and Eileen Quello (John), eight grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, two great-great- grandchildren, many nieces & nephews, extended family and dear friends. Preceding her in death: parents Nora & Ernie Hawkinson, sisters Mary Engebretson (John) and Eleanor Jessen, husbands Rolf P. Jacobson, Jr. and Dr. Mel Sletten, mother-in-law Margaret Sween Olson (Palmer), brother-in-law Harry Jacobson (Marilyn). A celebration of Joanne's life will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Maple Grove Lutheran Church, 9251 Elm Creek Blvd. N, Maple Grove, MN 55369. Inurnment at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery prior to service. Memorials preferred to Luther Seminary or Maple Grove Lutheran Church.
