Dr. Adel Ayad Mikhail

Mikhail, Dr. Adel Ayad of Bloomington, MN, fell asleep in the Lord at his home on Oct. 14, 2017, at the age of 82. Adel was born Nov. 8, 1934, in Alexandria, Egypt. He married his beloved wife, Noussa, on Jan. 7, 1958, and had two children, Sherief and Walid. Adel was a Fulbright scholar and attended the University of Minnesota for doctoral studies in Medicinal Chemistry. After completing his PhD, Adel moved to Columbus, OH, with his family to complete his postdoc before settling permanently in Bloomington, MN, and beginning a long career at MedicalCV, Inc. where he served as CEO until his retirement in 2001. Adel pioneered the research and design of his patent, the OmnicarbonTM monoleaflet heart valve. He devoted his life's work to its development, saving and extending countless lives as a result. Adel helped found St. Mary's Coptic Orthodox Church where he also served as a deacon and participated in weekly broadcasts. He remained a devoted member of the community throughout his life. Adel's work allowed him to travel the world, taking him to six continents and several countries. He enjoyed spending his winters in Florida and his summers at a lake house in Annandale, MN, where he spent most of his time outdoors in his garden, pontooning, fishing, and hosting large pancake breakfasts and fish fries for family and friends. Adel was preceded in death by his parents and brother Sobhi. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Noussa Mikhail; two sons, Dr. Sherief (Lisa) Mikhail and Dr. Walid Mikhail; sister Mary Fahmee; brother Ezzat Mikhail; six grandchildren, Marie, Grace, Luke, Rose, Mark, and Anna Mikhail; and many relatives and friends. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 11:00am at St. Mary's Coptic Orthodox Church. Interment to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery with a light meal after. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers and can be sent to St. Mary's Coptic Orthodox Church at 501 6th Ave S. South St. Paul, MN 55075.
