Egli, Werner Hans b. Sept. 5th 1924 in London, England, passed away on Sept. 13th 2017 while at home under hospice care after a prolonged struggle with Parkinson's disease. For the past 6 mos. he and his wife, Barbara lived at the Augustana Care Suites in Minneapolis, MN., during which time he received incredibly heartfelt care from the Personal Care Attendants there. He is survived by Barbara J., wife of 50 years, son Werner R. (Lori) Egli of Columbia Heights MN, daughter Barbara Elisabeth Hahn of England, and the children of Werner R., granddaughters Jasmine (Jeremy) Egli, Brittany, and Marissa. During WWII Werner served in the RAF in England. After the war he immigrated to the US, and during the Korean War he served in the American Air Force, stationed in Germany, where he was one of the first soldiers to become a naturalized American citizen while serving abroad. When he returned to the States he studied mechanical engineering under the GI Bill, and gained employment at Lycoming, a major manufacturer of aircraft engines in PA. He then moved to MN to work at Honeywell, where he stayed until retirement. Werner was proud to be one of the first members of Minnesota Mensa. He maintained a keen interest in local politics and was an active member of the Jordan Action Committee in North Mpls. for many years. He was also an expert in applied mathematics and, on his own, avidly studied quantum mechanics. Werner was an honorable man. Always proud of his American citizenship, he upheld the highest democratic principles throughout his life. Everyone who knew Werner enjoyed his company and he delighted people with his quick-thinking, wicked sense of humor. He will be missed by everyone that knew him. But we take solace in knowing that his new journey will be filled with excellence just as his life was.
