He grew up in North Minneapolis, graduated from De La Salle High School in 1954, and then served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1959. Ray worked full time while attending the University of Minnesota, graduating with a B.A. in 1964. After teaching in Jackson, MN, for one year, he returned to Minneapolis where he taught for four years at John Hay and Hamilton Schools in the Minneapolis Public School System. More importantly, he met Betty Berg of Madison, Minnesota, while teaching at Hay, and they were married in Madison on June 18, 1966. After Ray finished a graduate program at the "U," the Hysers moved to Willmar where they both taught for many years in the Willmar Schools. Ray and Betty also became very active at the Willmar Golf Club where they enjoyed many fun times and made many good friends. Quite by accident, Ray also began doing video of Willmar High School games in football, volleyball, and girls' basketball. He and Betty also began making videos of former athletes' weddings. Sadly, they never kept accurate records but "guesstimate: that the number tallied over 200. In 2013, the Hysers were inducted into the Cardinal Pride Hall of Fame in recognition of their efforts on behalf of Willmar kids. What an honor! Ray was really proud of the fact that his father, five brothers, two brothers-in-law, and one sister-in-law, all served in active duty in the U.S. Military! After retiring in 1995, Ray was very active in the "Geezer Golf Group" and the coffee group at Cornerstone Café. He dealt with a variety of cancers for 25 years, finally giving up the good fight on September 14th. Ray is survived by his wife, Betty; sister, Grace; brother, Wally (Kathleen) Hyser, and more than 25 nephews and nieces. Also surviving are his sisters-in-law, Mary Jane and Marcie Hyser. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Mary Helen Ring; four brothers: Jim, Chuck, Dick and Tom; brothers-in-law, Ed Ring and Stan Berg and sister-in-law, Florence Hyser. So, let a tear fall if you will, but also let a smile come quickly, for I have loved the laughter of life!.....Ray He beat cancer every day for so many years. Ray lived life on his own termsI will really miss him. Betty
