Delman R. Hogen

Hogen, Delman R. Age 77 of Spring Lake Park died at his Spring Lake Park home on August 22, 2017 after a grueling battle with Lewi body dementia and Parkinson's disease. He was surrounded by his family. Del was raised in north Minneapolis and graduated from DeLaSalle High School in 1959. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the 54th Armored Infantry Regiment. After completing his military service, Del studied tool and die making at Dunwoody Institute, and worked as a machinist for Graco and Honeywell Corporations in the Twin Cities. In 1972, Del graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in biology. He worked for the U ofM's Freshwater Institute in Navarre, MN, until starting his own business, Instrumental Research, Inc., in 1977. During the 1980's he founded two additional companies, Lemna Corporation and Clearwater Technologies Inc., and patented multiple inventions and biochemical processes. Del was never bored. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunting and fishing whenever and wherever possible. He was a founding member of the Minnesota Falconer's Association, rescuing and flying various birds of prey since 1975. He collected rocks, built canoes, camped, and enjoyed photography and film printing. He was an expert field mycologist, woodworker, and superb if uncertified - welder, electrician, plumber and pipe fitter. His favorite titles, though, were husband, dad, and grandpa, and he was a master craftsman at all three of those jobs. Del was preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Florence Hogen. He is survived by his wife Carol; daughters, Jennifer Hogen and Suzanne (Paul) Melchior; grandsons, Samuel and Theodore Melchior; brother, Clifford (Leona); nieces and nephews; and his dog, Spot. A celebration of his life will be held at Jax's Café 1928 University Ave NE, Minneapolis, MN 55418 on Saturday, November 4th at 2PM.
