Gardia 'Mickey' Gierke

Gierke, Gardia "Mickey" age 93, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2017. Born in Hatton, ND on August 9, 1924, she later moved to Minnesota and lived most of her life in Minneapolis, Robbinsdale, Crystal, New Hope and lastly at Crestview in Columbia Heights. She proudly worked many years as a waitress, and loved cleaning for many homes and businesses in the area. Mickey brought life and laughter everywhere she went, you knew she had arrived when you heard her yell "Anybody home around here?!" She was a social butterfly who touched the heart of everyone she met. Mickey will be remembered for her tiny size and black hair, her mini skirts and love of Elvis, her endless gifting of Hallmark cards and her independent spirit. She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Christian and Hilda Mastrud; and brothers Myron and Alvin Mastrud. She is survived by sisters Bernice Novak (Moorhead, MN), Corrine Anderson (Great Falls, MT), Delores Smith (Corpus Christie, TX), Shirley Hendrickson (Grand Forks, ND); brother Ronald (Alice) Mastrud (Fargo, ND); many nieces and nephews; and the many members of her "adopted" family in Minneapolis including "daughters" Kerry & Julia; "parents" Jim & Leslie, Curt & Mary, and Howard & Maryann; plus dear friends Darlene & Judy, to name only a few. Special thanks to friends at Ruth's Place for their love and care, and to niece Diane for all the trips she made to MN connecting Mickey and her sisters for lunch at the 50's Grill. Mickey will be missed by all who knew her and will never be forgotten. Memorial service will be held at Gearty-Delmore Funeral Chapel, 3888 West Broadway, Robbinsdale, MN on Friday, Sept. 29th with visitation starting at 2pm, memory sharing at 3pm, with coffee & dessert to follow.
